Foodie, Bougie, Adventurer: 8 Incredible Sydney Elopement Ideas

Sydney is all about the glam, the beaches, and the unique adventures on offer – which makes it the perfect place for an elopement! From the iconic Opera House to the award-winning restaurants and cocktail bars, I love that this sparkling harbour city offers so many chic ways you can customise an elopement weekend to perfectly suit your tastes, and I’ve compiled a few Sydney elopement ideas to help you get started.

With a mild climate, amazing venues, and irresistible beaches, Sydney is a fantastic year-round wedding destination. Whether you’re the world’s biggest foodie, you love an adrenaline rush, or you just have a taste for the finer things in life, read on for your Sydney elopement inspiration!

Plan A Luxe Weekend In Double Bay

The Sydney CBD is amazing and always a fun place to base yourself, but if you’re all about food, fashion, and million-dollar views, consider staying in Double Bay instead. This hip eastern suburb is one of the best places to elope in Sydney if you’re after five-star luxury!

Double Bay is all about fun and romance, offering some of Sydney’s best boutique shopping and plenty of amazing restaurants for celebrating with friends and family. Book a room or suite in the gorgeous Intercontinental Double Bay, and be sure to grab brunch at Indigo – not only is the food to die for, but you might spot a celeb or two!

Celebrate In Style With High Tea At The QVB

As your Sydney elopement photographer, I absolutely insist that we take some amazing photos at the Queen Victoria Building (or as it’s better known, the QVB). Opened in 1898 and built in the Romanesque Revival style, both the interior and exterior of this grand shopping centre make the perfect spot for a photo backdrop.

Even better, you and your partner can celebrate with a champagne high tea at the QVB Tea Room – an elegant space complete with vaulted ceilings and intricate detailing. It feels like something out of a European fairytale, seriously!

If you’re planning a bigger reception after you elope, the ballroom at the Tea Room can accommodate 50–200 guests for a seated dinner and dancing.

Shop In Style

Say your vows, celebrate into the night, then shop and sightsee the next day – who says you can’t have it all? When you elope in Sydney on a long weekend, you can also browse some of the country’s best boutiques, from international luxury brands to locally made fashion.

You’ll find some of the city’s best shopping in the CBD, Surry Hills, Bondi Junction, and Mosman. Or, if you both love finding unique treasures, don’t miss some of the city’s markets, such as in the Rocks, Paddington, or Kirribilli.

Sail Your Way To Wedded Bliss

With so many stunning waterways on offer in Sydney, why not get a little adventurous and arrange a private sailing experience for your elopement? Whether you’re climbing aboard a sailboat to cruise the harbour and conduct your ceremony in a secluded beach location, or saying your vows and celebrating aboard a stunning high-end yacht, an elopement on the water in Sydney is sure to be unforgettable.

If more traditional Sydney elopement venues aren’t for you, the option of taking to the seas is an incredible unique alternative!

Book A Suite At One Of Sydney’s Top Hotels

Some of Australia’s best hotels can be found in Sydney, so a low-key and romantic way to elope is to live it up with a lush suite. You could have a micro wedding in Sydney on your favourite beach or in the Botanic Gardens with your nearest and dearest, plan a group dinner, and then spend a few days on your own in the city.

Park Hyatt is a fab choice, right on the water, but I also love the Crown Towers, the Fullerton, and the funky Ace Hotel in Surry Hills. I’m happy to offer elopement packages in Sydney that include time at your suite for those fun and candid getting-ready snaps!

Soak Up The Sun At Bondi Beach

The sparkling dazzle of Bondi Beach really feels like the heart of the city once summer rolls around! Be sure to visit during your elopement weekend – I highly recommend a long, leisurely lunch at Icebergs, checking out the surfers (or taking a lesson yourself!), and walking some of the famous Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk.

Can you elope in Sydney on the beach? You absolutely can, as all beaches are public property – we’ll get the best light for your photos (and fewer crowds!) around sunrise or sunset.

For an equally amazing beach wedding in the north, Jonah’s is an amazing venue right on Whale Beach.

Toast Your Love With Sunset Champagne At The Opera House

While you’re in Sydney, you absolutely have to do a champagne toast at the Opera House Bar! This amazing outdoor venue wraps around the outside of the Opera House and showcases some of the city’s best views of the harbour and Kirribilli – it’s super relaxing watching all the ferries and boats glide by.

For your elopement photography in Sydney, we can get some really gorgeous candid shots here. It’s such a quintessential Sydney location, and we’ll really capture the vibe to help you relive memories of your epic elopement adventure as you look back on your photos in years to come.

Book A Private Room At One Of Sydney’s Top Restaurants

A private room is such a special way to host your reception after you say your vows. With so many award-winning Sydney restaurants offering private dining spaces, it can be a more intimate and fun way to celebrate with your small group.

A few restaurants with private rooms that are seriously impressive include Pilu at Freshwater, Hubert, Nobu Sydney, and Quay Restaurant.

If, after reading all that, you’re wondering, “Where can I elope in Sydney?!”, I’d be so happy to help you brainstorm! From the gorgeous Observatory Hill to an easy courthouse ceremony, there are so many wonderful choices. I’m all about love in all its many forms and I’d be thrilled to help you plan your elopement photography – I can’t wait to hear from you, so contact me anytime!
